Our Values

Sisterwork’s values are the grounding principles that inform all of our internal and external organizational planning, programming, and communications. These values are integral in compelling our accountability to each other, the community we serve, and our stakeholders. We aspire to engrain the following values in all that we do.

Integrity

We are committed to working with transparency and accountability. This means that we are determined to do the right thing even when faced with difficult decisions. By remaining grounded in integrity we are able to protect both our organizational culture and our community relationships through fostering trustworthiness amongst each other and the families and community partners we interact with.

Compassion

We are committed to nurturing an internal and external environment built on empathy and dignity. As an organization that serves the Latinx community, Sisterwork is conscious about the inherited layers of trauma that our community often experiences. We strive to provide support and programming that reflects our values as a justice centered and caring organization.

Empowerment

We are committed to the notion ‘of caring for our own’ and that community-work should be done by that community in order for it to be sustainable. That is why as an organization, our goal is to embolden the mothers and students we engage with, to support and challenge them to become an active leader in their respective network (professional, educational, and within the larger community).

Community

We are committed to forging meaningful connections with each other, the families we serve, and our community partners. This commitment is rooted in an understanding that thriving communities are not islands and that we are all stakeholders in each other’s success. “I am, because we are” - Ubuntu philosophy
